 Gollies Galore
MY GOLLIWOGG AFFAIR
The golliwogg did not enter my life until the 1970's, after a long love affair with soft toy making. Having competed in craft fairs, agricultural shows and craft exhibitions with excellent results, I started to see the potential of the golliwogg. It was not long before my gollies started to take on very colourful and individual characters. With bright clothing, happy faces, and of course a girlfriend or two for company.
My first real outing with these golliwoggs was at a doll and bear show held in the Hobart Casino in Tasmania. Having had great success with my exhibits, I returned again the following year. This time some of my gollies were photographed by a photographer from The Hobart Tribune, and were featured, along with other dolls and toys, on the middle page spread of the next edition.
UNIQUE GOLLIES
My gollies are clothed in bright, sunny cottons and felts, with some materials being imported from overseas. All of my gollies have minds of their own, and accordingly come dressed in very glamorous shirts, trousers and even jewellery.
TRADITIONAL GOLLIES
Keeping in mind that golly is a much remembered and revered part of childhood, I also dress him very traditionally, namely jacket, vest, trousers, and of course, the signature bow tie. My traditional gollies always stay the same and have no edition limits.
INDIVIDUALITY
I make sure that ALL my gollies are well made, and many are individual in their own right. To keep their individuality I often make them in small editions of 'one to ten' only. Golly himself basically doesn't change, only his or her clothing does.
COLLECTORS ITEMS
My gollies are mainly made with the true collector in mind, although I now also make gollies with removable clothing, for children (or adults) who like to dress their golly for special occassions. Clothing and accessories for gollies are also available.
All of our gollies are expressions of my imagination and are totally created with love.
